Son of Former NBA Player, Father of Late Lakers Star Kobe Bryant

Joe "Jellybean" Bryant, a former NBA player and WNBA coach, has passed away at the age of 69. The news was confirmed by the Philadelphia 76ers, the team with which Bryant played for eight seasons. No cause of death has been released at this time.

Bryant was a standout player at La Salle University before being drafted by the 76ers in the first round of the 1975 NBA Draft. He played eight seasons in the NBA for the 76ers, San Diego Clippers, and Houston Rockets, averaging 8.7 points and 4.3 rebounds per game.

After his playing career ended, Bryant became a coach in the WNBA, leading the Los Angeles Sparks to two championships in 2001 and 2002. He also coached the Sparks to the WNBA Finals in 2003.

Bryant was perhaps best known for being the father of late Lakers star Kobe Bryant. Kobe Bryant died in a helicopter crash in January 2020, along with his daughter Gianna and seven others.

Bryant's death is a tragic loss for the basketball community. He was a beloved figure who will be fondly remembered by fans and players alike.
